We hope to inspire your creativity with the projects we share here. We are home schoolers and love to be different, learn new things and have fun. We try to be as open minded as possible and when people say you should do something in a certain way, we ask why? Why should we follow suit? We are all unique and process things in different ways, so we should be free to express ourselves in our own way.

BOOK REVIEW (By Natasha 15/11/16) - Alfie by Shirley Hughes
The “Alfie” series, written by Shirley Hughes, are a wonderful collection of stories about Alfie and his baby sister, Annie Rose. They go through their life experiences, growing up and learning. The series is over 30 years old and I can see why they have been so successful!
“Alfie” are my all time favourite children’s books. I remember reading these books and thoroughly enjoying them and “Dogger”, when I was a child. You can only imagine how happy I was when Kayleigh used to find them in the library as a child but they were limited on choice and we couldn’t afford to buy the books when she was small. Then you can definitely imagine now how overjoyed I was when Kameron came home from pre-school (Before home schooling) one day with “Alfie’s Feet” to read. I hadn’t even mentioned these books to him before, nor had Kayleigh. This made it all the more special because he was drawn to the book himself. After reading it once, he wanted to read it again and again. When he had to take it back to pre-school, we located more from the series in our local library and we have all been hooked on them ever since. My kids know I love them so much that they have been surprising me with them for my birthdays, mother’s day and Christmas over the past few years. So these books will stay with me ready for the Gran-Kids – and I don’t care what you tell me, Kayleigh, you are having children! (An ongoing debate between mother and daughter)
The Alfie (and Dogger) stories teach life lessons in a wonderful and caring way. They really do warm your heart and make you love your children so much more than you do already. Shirley Hughes’ illustrations support the stories really well because they are realistic, homely, cosy and relatable. They make me wish I was in the story! I can’t wait to add more to my collection. I currently only have “Alfie Gets in First”, “Alfie’s Feet”, “Alfie Gives a Hand”, “An Evening at Alfie’s”, “Alfie and the Big Boys”, “Alfie and Mum”, a Christmas Alfie book (which I will reveal closer to Christmas) and “Dogger”.
The Book People (www.thebookpeople.co.uk) are selling a lovely gift pack with a selection of Shirley Hughes books that come in a tote bag.
